Movie Review: the Hunger Games

Hey again,

Movie nerd back in the building. Hope y'all had great weekends cos mine was almost fabulous.

So best thing about this weekend was the Hunger Games. As usual your girl went for the midnight screening and boy was it good.

I had read the hunger games trilogy over spring break and I was immediately enamored with the story and adventure. For the Harry Potter fans out there, I describe the first book as an extension of the tri-wizard tournament from the goblet of fire but a bit more deadlier, gory and no magic.

Oh lest I forget, the plot synopsis:
Suzanne Collins
In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives. -- IMDb Plot: The Hunger Games (2012)

The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence who was also Mystique in Last year's X-men: first class wearing only body paint, Liam Hemsworth aka Thor's Brother aka Miley Cyrus' Boyfriend, Josh Hutcherson (who was suprisingly very good, I didn't expect him to capture the essence of Peeta that well), Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Amandla Stenberg (little girl from colombiana), Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Donald Sutherland, Dayo Okeniyi (yes he's Nigerian), Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Furhman (creepy girl from the Orphan) oh and many more. Apparently every star wanted to be in the movie.

Anyway, stays as true to the book as he can and adds a little fit drama but all in all it was very well directed and the story was told so beautifully. The film has already broken records by becoming the third highest opening weekend ever only behind The Dark Knight and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. The movie made an estimated $155 million this weekend alone. You don't want to be the last to see this movie. Leave your comments if you've already seen the movie and come back and leave a comment after you have seen this movie.

Extra tidbits: for the ladies, main reason to see the movie: Liam Hemsworth aka Thor's Brother and guys, Jennifer Lawrence is an absolute stunner- she has that natural beauty cos she has little or no makeup on plus she's an Oscar nominee from when she was just 18 (impressive huh!!)

Till my next visit to the theatre!!

Miss Me
